Brother Jacks Review of The Dead Dont Die & Brightburn

Greetings Faithful followers

Its been a while since you all heard from myself,brother James, the countess or any of the rest of the gang here at the monastery of mayhem, that,s on brother Jack work ups n downs of the home situation etc you all will be hearing more from me here in the days ahead.  So Lets get the ball rolling in 2020 with a couple of good old fashioned movie reviews.; hang on to your hats this could get a little weird.

When I bought The Dead Dont Die a film by Jim Jarmusch I was not expecting the dark almost existential black comedy that unfolded itself before me. The Cast of the film was definitely at the top of their collective games, Bill Murray playing the easy going chief of police of the town of Centerville, Adam Driver and Chloe Sevigny playing deputies Ronnie Peterson and Mindy Morrison.
The movie had some excellent co starring roles from such luminaries as Danny Glover, Steve Buscemi, Carol Kane and Rapper RZA. The Movie was stolen By Tilda Swinton  as the Scottish(?) undertaker Zelda Winston. The Supporting Cast was so chock full of starts I would be hard pressed to name them all, the only detraction was Selena Gomez whos sole purpose to me was to have her ass on camera as much as possible hanging out of a pair of daisy dukes,,that could just be me but i doubt it.

The plot of the film starts steady showing the idyllic samness of small town life the the triggering event occurs polar frakking  has shifted the earth on its axis this causing the dead to reanimate with darkly hilarious results. This film showcases Bill Murray,s comedic talents not like films like GhostBusters or What About Bob? but in a more subtle or subversive way like Scrooged or The Life Aquatic it slips around any preconceptions and kicks you brain in the nads creating many WTF moments throughout the film. Adam Driver and Chloe Sevigny turned in excellent performances as well The Ends of these characters in the film run the gamut from heroic to poignant but i wont give any further spoilers.

The most unexpected stand out of this film was Tilda Swinton as samurai sword swinging undertaker Zelda Winston the role was played with a quirky zen panache that Ms Swinton delivers so well for example the film Constantine comes to mind, Steve Buscemi playing mildly racist farmer miller who got his just deserts at the end delivered a standout performance.

The storytelling was tight and well written paying several homages' to the late great father of the zombie horror genre George A Romero who i am sure would be giving this movie a big thumbs up from that cutting room in the sky. If you havent guessed by now I like this film it delivers all that flesh eating goodness that a zombie flim should .

The Next Film I would like to talk about is BrightBurn This Flipping of the Superman Origin story was totally chilling in in its presentation of the question what if superman was a serial killer rather than the big blue boyscout he has always been portrayed  as? The flim focuses on young Kansas Farming couple Tori and Kyle Bryer and their infertility then it cuts to home movies of their young son Brandon a typical  year old boy going up in america'e heartland . Things began to take a darker turn as the onset of puberty triggers brandons latent powers. I know what your thinking we get the kindly Jonathan Kent speech of doing great things with his powers oh not so gentle reader shit goes sideways pretty damn fast, One by one brandon starts eliminating people in his life who have irked him in the smallest of ways like any emo punk would.

Uncle Noah Bites the Big One Literally 

Particularity gruesome was his dispatching of his uncle noah kudos for the writer and the makeup and special effects crews for this sequence A very big mention goes to the killing of Brandons Father Kyle in a scene reminiscent of Amazon Primes new series The Boys .

Poor Kyle Thats one headache Excedrine wont fix

 This Film does wonders for the Nature vs Nurture  argument as Brandon degenerates from a likable Midwestern kid to a psychotic killer. I don't want to go into the plot too much if you haven't seen this movie DO! it is worth the price of purchase or admission and would be a fine addition to your home horror collection.

So there you have it faithful Followers  Our First Reviews of  2020 I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed Writing it. A Victory and a setback and why we love ROKU

Greetings Faithful follwers,

It's been a crazy month here at the monastery of mayhem for your old pal Brother Jack, some upheaval in the employment and financial areas also a set back on the show front we lost a gig more on that in a bit but first the good news. Our great partners on the roku streaming box have done so much to help promote us Nationally and to spread the fame of the angry brothers from coast to coast and beyond for a active horror host the value of the roku platform cannot be underestimated the popularity of this format lies in its abundance of channels covering just about any genre of films or enternaiment you could want from the mundane to the super exotic and everything in between Our friends at INC (independant Network Channel ) were gracious enough to make this fantastic promo for us to hearld the Angry Brothers Omaha Shock O  Rama coming to INC we hope that you enjoy it.

Ok as I stated early we did have a small setback we were removed from a gig against our will where I could rail about the unfairness of this and how we were removed from this by the organizers for not clearing a previous blog post with them and other reasons we are not going to talk about that or that organization, we do wish them well in their future endeavors but we will not cover any of their future events.  

So with that being said Faithful Followers lets all strive to have a wickedly fun Halloween season and lets keep America on top Watch Horror Hosts Y'all.

This is Brother Jack Angry One of the joys of this time of year in addition to Halloween, seeing ghosts , ghouls, witches and other monsters running around pumpkin spiced everything is the NebraskaAnimecon 2015. This convention has been growing and evolving and just getting plain better every since its inception in 2004 with only 300 attendees to over 5k+ for 2014. 

The con includes a veriatable who's who of the anime and voice acting realms this years guests included
Robert Axelrod, David Brehm, Chris Cason, Richard Epcar,  Kyle Hebert, Erica Mendez, Eric Stuart, Alexis Tipton, Cristina Vee, and Stephanie Young.

Another plus is being able to see all of the great cosplayers and cosplay enthuisists. All though I or Lady Torrid who covered the con with me did not know all of the characters we enjoyed ourselves immensely here are some pics for you all to enjoy.

I do want to address a couple of serious items before we get going with the fun and frivolity we are famous for. We Want to wish our twitter fan and much admired lady Christy Mack a speedy recovery and all the best wishes and most positive vibes at the hands of an ex boy friend (we all know who it is we just dont want to give that diseased stream of rhinoceros pizzle the free pub!). Christy has almost reached her goal of 100K on her crowd fund campagin to help her medical expenses we will post a link below. Secondly we want to dedicate this edition of the blog to Robin Williams A great comic, actor,husband,  father, philanthropist and human being. Rest In  peace Sir..

We want to welcome our newest member of our crazy little crew the lovely and luscious Meriyha Phillips as Black Dahlia, when you see her pics your all really gonna sit up and take notice. A welcome edition to our crew of lovelies Inferna, Lady Torrid, Ash, Ghoulia and Syn not to mention the sexy and elusive Dr Sangria.

The Omaha Sexy Nerd Society Is Run By Local personality Jim Morrison we were fortunate enuf to run across this group on Facebook and after absorbing the philosophy of the group and finding out about the Superhero/supervillan party in honor of one of the members birthday ( the sexy little nightwing) we were on our way to the party to shoot an episode which you can see on youtube and below. 

We also met many great party goers including the green hornet , harley quinn and thor, not to mention Jim Morrison who was dressed Ozymandias from the movie Watchmen.

A SAD FAREWELL AND A TRIBUTE TO GREAT HORROR HOST

Greetings Faithful Followers,

For this installment of the blog I was originally going to do a review of the Tony Watt (aka The Canadian Wildman) films Frankenpimp and  Vixen Highway 2006 (both great films BTW so stay tuned). Instead I wanted to take this opportunity to pay tribute to a fello horror host and  a wonderful human being Magoo Gelehrter aka GAROU the werewolf also the husband of  Danielle Gelehrter aka Penny Dreadful XIII, Magoo lost his valiant struggle with cancer and left us this past friday. The entire horror host community  was deeply shocked and saddened by his loss including us here at the monastery of mayhem (brother james, ash, inferna & lady torrid) also send out deepest sympathies to Danielle and Magoo's families.

I personally did not have the opportunity to communicate with magoo on the level that many of my fellow horror hosts did But I followed the posts on his Gofundme and Facebook Pages and did talk thru facebook on several occasions. I was always touched by the optimism,strength and dignity that Magoo used in coping with his illness  and was always touched by the upbeat nature in the thank you email's he sent in regards to the donations made to his gofundme campaign and helping to spread the word of his plight with our fans and over the social media.                                                                                                                              

 

When I decided to become a horror host about 5 years ago I researched many horror hosts  Penny and Garou had stood out not only because of penny's obvious chrisma and attractivness (shes smokin!)  but what i watched on youtube and their websites and was captivated by the interplay between Penny and Garou, manfred von bulow and luna . Magoo's comedic timing and his passion and love for the character of Garou shone through every time he was in front of the camera . Tennessee horror host Dr Gangrene had this to say about Magoo "Magoo was the little guy with a funny name and  a huge personality -to meet Magoo was to fall in love with him. Funny. Intelligent, warm-hearted and full of love of life" A very appropriate description of Magoo indeed.

 After hearing of Magoo's Passing and not really believing that i had heard right, I began to wonder "why is someone with such passion and such strength taken from us so soon and obviously with so much more to give?" Having lost several  members of my own family to cancer I have asked these questions before and coming up with the same answer that the universe works in strange ways and someone that can touch so many is needed for great work elsewhere. I know that this is small comfort to penny and thier families at this time I wish that I could have gotten to Magoo better, I am sure that if someones impact in this life can be measured by the outpouring of sympathies by those lives he touched at his passing then Magoo was truly one of the luckiest of people.

 

Speaking for myself if I could answer any of those questions that i asked previously I would probably be a wiser person than I am now. All I can do is feel what all of us in the horror host community, his family and his fans are feeling now the sadness at his loss but also being grateful that Magoo was able to touch all of our lives in some way large or small, thats a pretty good legacy in my opinion.

 

Rest In Peace Garou you will be missed

Brother Jacks Wildest Indie Movie The Films of Tony Watt..Acid Queen and Nosferatu vs Father Pipecock & Sister Funk

Greeting Faithful Followers,

Your Old Pal Brother Jack Angry and the crew at the monastary of mayhem are always on the lookout for the best and brightest in indie film makers from both the states and our unique cousins from the great white north and by north I dont mean the dakotas I mean Canada..The Land of  Molson ale and the canadian tuxedo, where hockey isnt a game its a religion..

Our first film of the night is Acid Head -The Buzzard Nuts County Slaughter the film stars Tony watt who also directs and produces along with his very delicious wife Vivita Kho, Tony has her billed as a canadian scream queen. The story opens with 2 bank robbers hitting the bank of Bramption Ontario where one of the robbers is gunned down as he lays dying he tells his partner to take the haul of cash and split for the states to find lana a stripper/hooker he had feeling for to let her knows he still loves her which he promptly does leaving his partner to die right there.. Tony watt plays many of the characters vito the italian mobster and john of Louisiana Lou  also the characters of butch, dracula and cletus. Vivita play the title role of Acid head and pheremone labonza.

The story follows the trials of butch after being beaten up with a black mambo dildo by his psycho girlfirend and being kicked out of his aprtment and his subsequent journey to find a home he encounter joey a doper and meth maker much hilarity ensues at this point.. Most notable in this production are the buxom vivta and the character of strawberry grenade played by the stunning Danielle Leslie D
ickson and Jane Longeye as Dixie Stoolsoftner. The movie has a grindhousey or bad porno vibe which adds to its charm. As I had several cans of beer during this film by the end it was a very unique ride to say the least..

Our Next Film By Watt and Twi is Nosferatu vs Father Pipecock and Sister Funk. this retelling of the Murnau classic Nosferatu had me scratching my head saying what the fuck and trying not to piss on myself from laughing at the same time. Im pretty sure that brother james did pee himself  but them James Pees himself on a pretty regular basis. Watts impressive use of sound bites to take murnau's story and turn it into a sex romp and his use of scene cut ins was a joy to watch. All in All both films have a funky basment quality much like our show which only enhances its charm. I cant wait to feature both of these works on Movie Night Live From the Monastery of Mayhem on KPAO here in Omaha.

This is one of those movies that you would want to watch with a fifth of your favorite adult beverage or a baggie of your favorite weed if your so enclined. A great Romp  Kudos Tony and Vivita.

In our last blog post We told you about the 36th annual Groundhog Prom happening on February 1st, 2014 at the Sokol Auditorium in Omaha Nebraska. New Digs and a new look for the Monastary of Mayhem

Greetings Faithful followers,

     This is your old pal brothers Jack Angry here, bringing you another edition of The Blog a lot of great new things are happening here and we wanted to bring you up to date. First off I want to apologize for being silent so long, the monastery of mayhem has moved as crumbling monasteries deep in the bowels of Omaha Nebraska are wont to do we have found a new and better location so you can expect a new look to the show and some other new surprises as well.  First off I want to thank Laurie Lorsch and Examiner.com for the great article she wrote on myself and james and inferna and the rest of the crew at the monastary of mayhem It was very much appreciated.

Everyone knows that Omaha, Nebraska is the location of the only portal to hell in the Midwest. That portal is located at 7003 Q Street, inside of Raven’s Nightmare Phobia; where many have faced their greatest fears, and made their screams come true.
Speaking of NUTS, Omaha is also the location of one of the newest and highest rated underground horror hosting shows as well. Yes, from deep within the bowels of Omaha, Nebraska there emerges the Angry Bros Shock-O-Rama!
Your old pal Brother Jack Angry, Brother James (who is no longer dead by the way, just not all there yet), and the smoking hot cougar from hell, Inferna, invite you to visit their Monastery of Mayhem. The Angry Bros Shock-O-Rama airs Saturday mornings at 1:00 am on Cox Public Access Channel #22. Tune in and be prepared for the off the wall wit and humor that has created a long list of faithful followers. Plus, movies that are so good, only because they are so, so bad.
The Monastery is also home to a few other creepy cats; the sexy Devil Sisters, Ash and Sin; the voluptuous and dangerous Lady Torrid; Rob the Zombie occasionally spends the night when he can’t find his way back to his open grave; and Demonica, dweller of the night. Though we never see Demonica, her presence is felt.
Besides being able to check out the Angry Bros on the local public access channel, they have another channel on you tube as well. The long dead Brother Jack Angry, his recently undead brother, James, and the smoking hot Inferna also are available for guests appearances and make many during the month of October for the local Halloween festivities.
Though many chances to see the fun loving, ghoulish clan have passed, there are still opportunities this month to catch the Angry Bros for some horrid humor and freaky fun.
October 25th: Come and party with the Angry Bros clan and local band favorite 3-D In Your Face. Location is the 21st Saloon at 4727 South 96th Street.
October 26th: The Angry Bros will be appearing for the ‘Gothic Masquerade’ at the Side Door Lounge, located at 3530 Leavenworth.
Start the month of November out on a good time note, and visit the Angry Bros at the Holiday Inn Central, located at 72nd and Grover, for the Animekon Nebraska Festival.

We have added a new member our crazy little family.. It is my great pleasure to welcome Lady Torrid. Played by the Voluptuous,Vivacious Amy Hines.. We were fortunate to have met Amy at this years Groundhog Prom back in February, also contacting us during one of our casting calls.  Having shot Episodes of Both The Angry Brothers Omaha Shock O Rama and Movie Night at the Monastery of Mayhem the chemistry between Inferna, James and Myself was there and the decision wa made to offer her the position  which she readily accepted.
